In 1976, Linda Strader became one of the first women to work on a fire crew for the U.S. Forest Service in the Santa Rita Mountains south of Tucson. She will share a brief history of women in the Forest Service, and her experiences and efforts to advance in a career where women were not welcome. Linda will also discuss some of the ongoing challenges that women on fire crews continue to face today.
Linda Strader is the author of Summers of Fire: A Memoir of Adventure, Love and Courage. In addition to writing, Ms. Strader is a landscape architect, certified arborist, and a watercolor artist. She resides in Green Valley, Arizona.
