Presenters Avery Xola and Stephanie Motzkin

Avery D. Xola is the Voter Education Manager for the Citizens Clean Elections Commission. His role involves educating Arizonans on the electoral process through presentations, outreach, and curriculum development. A Phoenix native, Avery served in the U.S. Air Force before pursuing higher education at Mesa Community College and Arizona State University (ASU), where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master's degree in Public Administration. His commitment to public service was ignited during an internship at the Arizona Secretary of State's Office, where he witnessed the democratic process firsthand. Avery's contributions have been recognized with commendations from Governor Doug Ducey, and he has become a published author, a certified Election Officer, and a Flinn Brown Fellow.

Stephanie Motzkin is a native Tucsonan and has served as the Voter Outreach Coordinator to the Tohono O’odham Nation and a certified Election Officer at the Pima County Recorder’s Office since 2019. At the Recorder’s Office, Stephanie has helped build the Outreach program to serve not only the Tohono O’odham Nation, but all of Pima County. Her duties include, but are not limited to, keeping voters of the Tohono O’odham Nation informed of important voter and election information, leading voter registration training sessions, assisting new citizens with voter registration at Naturalization Ceremonies, and providing outreach at events such as the Tohono O’odham Nation Rodeo and Fair, Tucson Pride, Nam to Sand Jam, Disability Pride Day, and Juneteenth, to name a few.
In the course of her work, Stephanie has had the opportunity to participate with the Community Advisory Council under then-Secretary of State Katie Hobbs and has attended summits to build improved relationships between tribal nations and county election officials. Stephanie comes from a long line of military veterans and is proud to serve her country and her county through her work with the Recorder’s Office.
