Very glad I followed a recommendation of this. I think of all those dysfunctional families nearly all of us grew up in, and how we have likely not put out as many progeny as those that have gone before. Many of us have something within…

Like most Hollywood directors, Tamara Jenkins rarely misses a chance to "schlock it up". The first half is OK second rate Solondz (Happiness [Hoffmann is much better here as a obscene phone caller]; Life During Wartime.) As the movie…

This is a bad and depressing movie which have two totally unsympathetic characters as the leads. It was unwatchable to me and I fast forward through most of it and was glad it was over.

Beware: this is pitched as a comedy -- but there's not a laugh in sight. A few wry smiles at best. Not much amusing about two neurotics committing a demented father to a nursing home and watching him die. Great writing and acting…

so realistic how Wendy is trying to make the nursing home experience so perfect for a father she doesn't even know - and not realizing how little the specific social program or perfect bedside lamp or colourful pillow can bring comfort to…

This is an unassuming, quiet film about siblings trying to find closure, each in their own way.

For those whose parents had passed from a debilitating illness this movie hits close to home. The late Philip Seymour Hoffman and Laura Linney are you basic extraordinary actors portraying brother and sister given the task of taking care…

I rented it because I like Laura Linny and Phillip Seymour Hoffmans work but for my situation is was just too real and ALL too relatable. I had to put my mom in nursing care 3yrs ago for illness, rehad and dementia like symptoms. My mom…

Some terrific acting by Laura Linney & PSH, as well as Philip Bosco, who plays their aging father. Captures the weight, guilt, and other obvious and subtle issues that come up when dealing with aging parents.

Laura Linney & Philip Seymour Hoffman , as brother & sister. The movie is worth seeing for this alone, but happens also to be terrific inevery other way:plot/storyline, setting, camerawork. I've seen it 4 or 5 times, gets better every time.

If you want to see two of our finest actors at the top of their form, see this movie. Wonderful, subtle performances. Laura Linney got a well deserved Oscar nomination for her amazing portrayal of Wendy. She is utterly convincing.

Brilliant film. Not your usual Hollywood fare. So much better. If you like thoughtful, well made films about adults dealing with the real challenges of life, you will probably like this one a lot. It's more European in nuance. And I agree…

Well, you have a very slim chance of going wrong when you choose a film with Laura Linney and Philip Seymour Hoffman involved. Dealing with a subject that is rarely confronted in film, it also is quite funny in parts.

Good - This is one of those films that is good because the acting is incredible, the subject matter is real and you discover how two people that are one way at the beginning of the picture are transformed into something completely…
