Great writing! We're reading this series out loud to our 7 and 12 year old boys, and we are all thoroughly enjoying it. The first book is especially fun. My 12 year old (who doesn't like to write and doesn't pay much attention to what…

The first of a lovely series of the Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place books, The Mysterious Howling is a whimsical Victorian adventure, perfect for fans of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, or Trenton Lee Stewart’s A…

A smart and funny gothic mystery that feels like, as the library journal mentions, Jane Eyre meets Lemony Snicket. A plucky and sympathetic no nonsense governess, three wild children, a huge estate and mysterious goings on. Can't wait to…

a really good book and it goes to show that dogs (or children raised by dogs) are really smart

Wonderfully well-written Victorian tales of a 15-year-old governess who must tame and civilize three children raised by wolves, captured and brought to Ashton Place. It's all a part of a curse, of course. The Lord Ashton and his cronies…

I love this whole series, I have the whole set. I love how Maryrose Wood mixes mystery with humor and a bit of family love. I absolutely love the incorrigible children. Wood makes all her characters so real, and really, this series is so…

Picked this one up solely based on the cover. I had no clue what it was about. I was so surprised to realize what it was about, but absolutely loved it! Can't wait to read the rest of the series.

I chose this book because I love Jon Klassen's illustrations and when I saw that his work was included in this middle grade series I had to give it a shot. I really enjoyed this story of a young girl who has been hired on as the governess…

I loved this book! It is the perfect book/series for 4th - 6th graders who are strong readers. However, the book is so cleverly written that it is fascinating for adults. My 92-year-old mom is quite a fan.

Very fun to read and look at. The illustrations are marvelous. I like the pithy sayings of Agatha Swanburne who was the founder of the Governess Academy that Penelope graduated from. An interesting mystery of the children's origin keeps…

Hilarious, if you have a dry sense of humour. Should be enjoyable for quite a range of ages. Penny, Alawoo, Beowoo and Cassawoof are wonderfully rendered in this mysterious story.

It's been a while since I found a series I really wanted to continue reading. Here's the most recent candidate! Hillllllllarious inside jokes to older/wiser readers, but not so much that it takes away from the main story for the target age…

At first I was irritated by the narrative tone, wavering as it does between period accuracy and cheerful anachronism. Once I got over that I found it a fun, light read. Unfortunately this is yet another book with a "To Be Continued . . ."…
