This is a cautionary tale about the pitfalls of educational reform. Although it only deals with the United States, the Canadian education system has been afflicted by many of the same well-intentioned but misguided nostrums. Is there a similar book somewhere on Canadian education in the 20th century? I would really like to read it. Learned without being pedantic, humane but unsentimental, clearly and persuasively written, anyone with a child in school has to read this book.
