2nd story "Noon Wine", Hired hand, strong, silent, hard working Swede who works for low wages, in exchange for room & meals, really shapes up the farm & makes it profitable. He has a secret past though. I found it to be that of a great read, & good writing.

I am a huge fan of short stories due to the simple fact that you can get a snip-it of a larger story. However in this book (Pale Horse, Pale Rider) even the short story is to long. You often wonder what the hell is going on; just like the two young girls in the first story. The second is the longest waste of processed tree product I've ever tried to read, and the title story is just painful to read. It's never good to drop a reader into dream/reality spot. Establish if it's a dream, or if you are awake then run the story from there. Sorry, but this is just a waste of good paper.
