Yes. Without a doubt - Chapter 1 of "The Bad & the Beautiful" is (in my opinion) the real, true highlight of this work of non-fiction that takes a close-up look at good, ol' Hollywood of the 1950's (the decade of total paranoia and turbulence).

In this chapter authors Sam Kashner and Jennifer McNair really deliver the goods as they reveal to us the story behind the phenomenal popularity of "Confidential" magazine. This particular publication was a sleazy, tell-all, scandal rag that certainly whet the public's insatiable thirst to know all the sordid details and dirt about their favourite stars and their private activities (nudge. nudge. wink. wink).

Believe me - From outing stars, to religious revival, to ageing actresses, to bitchy gossip columnists, and beyond - "The Bad & the Beautiful" is a book that certainly gives the curios reader quite a different (and, yes, eye-opening) slant on 1950's Hollywood.

(*Be sure to watch "Confidential" video-clip*)
