I loved the Freddy books 50 years ago when I was in elementary school. I still love rereading them today. They teach life lessons and develop vocabulary in ways I seldom see in contemporary books. Freddy is a great character to emulate, and learn from as well as being entertaining. Long Live Freddy!!

If ever there was an underrated children's author it is Walter Brooks. I had forgotten just how good he is until I began reading these again with my son. We have gotten tremendous pleasure from them and his writing remains as I remember it, straightforward with a very funny and understated humor.
