Baker & Taylor
An accessible, jargon-free resource outlines the principles behind each major type of economy including capitalist, socialist, and feudal, in terms of the incentives each creates.

Basic Economics is a citizen’s guide to economics-for those who want to understand how the economy works but have no interest in jargon or equations. Sowell reveals the general principles behind any kind of economy-capitalist, socialist, feudal, and so on. In readable language, he shows how to critique economic policies in terms of the incentives they create, rather than the goals they proclaim. With clear explanations of the entire field, from rent control and the rise and fall of businesses to the international balance of payments, this is the first book for anyone who wishes to understand how the economy functions.

This completely revised and updated third edition of Thomas Sowell’s instrumental work includes a new chapter on government finance

The only book you will need to understand basic economics, its theory, implications and evolution. With plenty of examples (both, classical and modern), Sowell delivered here an extensive book that covers all the fundamentals, from supply and demand to economic theories.

Sometimes the book is so dense in examples that it makes it tedious, however is in this number of -carefully selected- examples where the edition shines from other publications on the subject.

Although this is a book of more than 700 pages, I'd recommend this as the entry text to comprehend this social science instead of any other "quick guide" available in the market.

Highly recommend--I found this book very informative and thought provoking. I only rated it 4 stars because I think the title is misleading. This is a book about a pro-capitalist, pro-business, anti-government, and anti-media world view that uses economics to further its points. The view of economics painted by the author is extremely biased.

This is a very nice book to get your feet wet for Economics. Examples are explained in details in common language that anyone can understand.

After reading this book, I undoubtedly think this will be one of the most important books I read in my lifetime. I now know as much about economics as I can reasonably expect to know without taking a course on economics.
