As a former competitive swimmer and reader of a certain age I was looking forward to this book as a resource to finding ways to best maximize my fitness. Barring very limited information about Torres's training there is nothing like that in this book. It is a memoir. Inspirational for what Torres achieved, but not helpful for women who are looking to stay in shape in the same way.

For readers of a certain generation such as myself, Ms. Torres' message of going for your goals, even at an advanced stage in your life, resonates. However, other than mentioning this theme within the first 10 pages and devoting two (still noteworthy) chapters to this, the rest of the book is filled, to me, with filler. While I can appreciate Ms. Torres' swimming skills (I even picked up a pointer or two), other parts of the book struck me as being elitist and having a sense of entitlement. It detracted from what I thought was its central message.
