Where Hemon stands out from the rest of his literary contemporaries, however, is in his use of language. It is both gorgeous and original. He is able to paint an image of a common object in a way no one has before, and he does it over and again. Sometimes it is a stretch--but if the reader can forgive Hemon the occasional blunder, they will be amazed at his overall mastery of language.

This set of stories are interrelated and linked by reference or characters. While it includes some beautifully crafted images, most of the images are unpleasant, cynical, and are with violent over or undertones. There is humor, but it is a dark one, so I suspect this text is for readers with distinct tastes or broad tolerances.

This book oozes testosterone. It is a set of loosely linked stories about an immigrant from Sarajevo - beautifully written, but some of the subject matter is violent so I would hesitate recommending to all. Hard to imagine that English is not Hemon's first language.
