Add a CommentThe collage art by Christopher Myers doesn't do justice to the poetic text by Walter Dean Myers. I like a lot of C Myers work - but not this one. This is a great one to share for a discussion on identity w/middle graders.
This book is a wonderful collaboration between poet Walter Dean Myers and his son, artist Christopher Myers. An energetic poem unfolds between the vivid images celebrating the multiple visions of self as father, son, city dweller, and dancer, and invites readers to participate in their own poetic "I am".
A boy named Jeremy goes around his neighborhood talking to friends and family about who he is--a brother, a son, a city kid, a dancer, a writer, and much more. Vivid illustrations blend well with the beautiful poetry.
