A mishmash of recent album cuts, non-album tracks, and previously-unissued stuff, a real odds-and-sods mix. Some songs are making their second or third appearance on a Willie Nelson compilation. But it gets four stars for chutzpah -- who else could get away with "Cowboys Are Secretly Frequently Fond of Each Other," making its first CD appearance? The unreleased "Superman" is great fun, as is "Beer for My Horses" with Toby Keith. Other welcome duet partners include Lucinda Williams, Ray Price, and Lee Ann Womack. His 'live' run-through of "Crazy" with Elvis Costello and Diana Krall, however, reaches a new low ... ENOUGH already! Willie has recorded the song at least a dozen times, and this is the worst version so far. He could also have eliminated the last track, the unreleased (with good reason) "Ain't Goin' Down on Brokeback Mountain," which threatens to undo the goodwill generated by "Cowboys" ... but let's call it a joke and chalk it up to Willie's tongue-in-cheek sense of humor.
