I didn't like this book as much as Shadow Kiss, however Blood Promise was enjoyable nonetheless. It was quite the emotional roller-coaster and just when you thought things were going to be okay, that feeling slapped you in the face as a new problem came into action. Blood Promise by Richelle Mead was most definitely worth the read.

Spoilers below!
4/8 - I knew it! I knew that for some reason or other Rose would be unable to kill Dimitri and that it would eventually become unnecessary as another solution to the problem would reveal itself. And of course it involves Victor, which means breaking him out of jail, which will probably lead to an escape and another attempt to use Lissa her for her Spirit healing powers. Everything about Strigoi-Dimitri's imprisonment of Rose gave me an immediate flashback to evil-Angel's controlling/abusive boyfriend behaviour towards Buffy after the season two episode Surprise. The way Strigoi-Dimitri was unable to kill or turn Rose felt exactly the same as the way evil-Angel strung out his 'torture' of Buffy in the last nine episodes of season two. He was constantly 'trying' to kill her but never actually managing, mostly because he had all these grand plans of killing her that never really worked, and never thought to just find her and snap her neck before she had a chance to react (something which would most likely have worked as she hesitated whenever she saw him, the way Dimitri tried to teach Rose not to).

I feel Rose was a bit unfair to Adrian. While I'm not a fan of any possibility of a relationship between him and Rose, I do think he isn't too objectionable as a friend, a useful friend - he has knowledge and abilities that no one else in their group of friends does. If he would just stop smoking, he'd be a great friend. I hate smoking IRL and reading about it makes me think I can actually smell it. I find it almost as offensive in books as I do IRL.

Book 4 in VA series, preceded by Shadow Kiss and followed by Spirit Bound. Rose is mourning for Dimitri - the first part is quite sad; but it picks up at the end with new twists. This series is great. I can't read the next two; still hoping that there is some hope for Rose and Dimitri.

In Blood Promise Rose is on her own, so is Lissa for that matter, Rose has set her self up for what seems to be a suicide mission. Dimitri is stronger, faster, smarter and older than Rose, now that he is a Strigoi there is no way she can defeat him, yet she packs her bags, hugs Lissa and heads off to Russia. It was great getting to know Dimitri's family and what a real Dhamphir's community was like. The time with his family helped Rose to heal his family accepted her, they treated her like a widow, not like a student losing a teacher she had a crush on.

Ok this is going to be really hard not to spoil the plot for you guys... the middle and end were so mind blowing, Rose is lost trying to figure out who she is and what she really wants in life. Meanwhile Lissa is losing herself slowly to the darkness as well as something more sinister.
