This new and exciting book on arrowheads is different from others you have read. It starts with the Indians' ancestors coming to America and the culture timelines from 28,000 years ago to 1,000 years ago. It relates Paleo, Archaic, and Woodland peoples and the stone artifacts they produced. Next, there are 121 points described and identified. Following that is a section on Southwest Paleo and Archaic points, something which has not been included in other books on the subject. Most of the remainder of the book features projectile points in full color, with collector values. There are many scenic photographs throughout the book showing how Indian country looked long ago. A digest of sorts, this book contains information you would have to look in several books to find. It's a must-have for Indian artifact and arrowhead collectors everywhere. 2009 values.

Book News
A former high school teacher who has always been interested in history and archaeology, Owens has been an old west and Indian antique dealer at shows across the western US for the past 26 years. He offers amateurs and professionals a concise view of Paleo and Archaic projectile points from all over the US. The main section is the gallery, in which, for the period 20,000-1,000 BC, he identifies 121 types by illustrating examples in photographs or drawings, describing the physical features, identifying distribution and association and age and cultural affiliation, citing the date and place the example was found, and adding any remarks. Other chapters consider such topics as American prehistoric culture timeline, flint knapping techniques, types of stone used to make projectile points, price guide, other Indian stone and pipe artifacts, and birdpoints. The introduction is from an 1972 version, but a new preface is included. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
