Three months have passed since Richard Jury was left bereft and guilt-ridden after his lover's tragic auto accident. He is deeply suspicious when assigned a case far out of his jurisdiction in an outlying village where a young woman was murdered behind the local pub. The only witness is the establishment's black cat, who gives no clue as to the girl's identity or her killer's.

This was the first Martha Grimes Richard Jury story I've read and I am addicted! When the cat and dog started talking I was hooked. I really like the introspection that Jury offers, and he's quite a literary fellow too. I listen to audio books as well as read and I love the narrator, John Lee.
