Two feature films and three short films from the early 20th century dramatize problems faced by immigrants in the United States. The Italian: An immigrant leaves his sweetheart in Italy to find a better life across the sea in the slums of New York. They are eventually reunited and marry. But life in New York is hard and tragedy tarnishes their dream of a better life in the new world. Police force of New York City: An early demonstration film features New York policemen recreating how they deal with various safety issues and crimes. McQuade of the traffic squad: A police officer's girlfriend becomes an unwitting accomplice in burglary. Traffic in souls: A woman, with the aid of her police officer sweetheart, endeavors to uncover the prostitution ring that has kidnapped her sister, and the philanthropist who secretly runs it. The call of the city: A naive young woman comes to the big city and unwittingly becomes a suspect in a killing.
