A masterful adaptation of John Le Carre's 1970s spy thriller about the secret British hunt for a high-ranking KGB mole.

I liked this spy thriller CD. The violence is subtle but present. Perhaps, it is too graphic for children. The sexual aspects are subtle and present too. Le Carré, John did a great job with the script writing this story. The script has lots of surprises to keep you interested. You may feel some sympathy for the characters in the story like I did. I like John as an author. A biography about him I watched said he was actually a spy in his life. According to the biography his scripts are based on facts with the fake names of people and places. It is supposed to represent what it is really like to be a spy.

Excellent adaptation of the John Le Carre spy novel- great plot and acting all around- one of Gary Oldman's best performances of his career. A thinking man's or woman's film. It may take more than one viewing to appreciate the intricacies and subtleties of this film.

I won't lie, but for at least half the movie I did not understand what was going on. I suspect one has to read the book to really appreciate this.

Wonderful story by Le Carre and wonderfully acted by this newer cast, but I must say I prefer Alec Guinness, the quintessential Smiley! Gary Oldman appeared to take on two rolls, that of Smiley and then of Alec Guinness acting Smiley. I found his makeup and demeanor too contrived, but still enjoyed this effort.

An exceptional adaptation of Le Carre's novel- with an outstanding performance by Gary Oldman ( one of the best of his illustrious career I think ). An intriguing, intelligent film that will keep you on the edge of your seat- whats not to like?
The original series is also outstanding- Alec Guiness giving the original and seminal performance as Smiley- Oldman more than holds his own and makes the role a singular one.
An excellent film- worth watching.

I wish I had read comments/reviews before watching! Was in a tired mood, and usually when I watch movies I pick action or comedies that move quickly. I'll admit I have a short attention span when it comes to films... yes I like some slower ones but for the most part I just want to be entertained and not think. Unfortunately the good acting was lost on me.The plot moved so slowly and was only half paying attention so got confused with characters (oh look, another british white guy with dark hair!). The subtlety and satire of bureaucracy just became boring. I could see how it is a good movie, just not the type for me

A great cadre of actors that one could legitimately expect a great film from. Truly disappointing if you saw the excellent original film with Sir Alec Guiness. A much better effort was expected of this one that butchered the story in my view. Would not recommend it at all.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: one man is shot (not dead) in a mall type place. An innocent bystander is shot and killed by mistake.

This is not a James Bond thriller.
It is about a British Intelegence agency that has a mole to deal with.
No karate, no action except in the mind of the hunter and the mole.
