Hayat Shah was captivated by Mina long before he met her: his mother's beautiful, brilliant, and soulfully devout friend is a family legend. When he learns that Mina is leaving Pakistan to live with the Shahs in America, Hayat is thrilled. Hayat's father is less enthusiastic. When Mina finds her own path to happiness, the ember of jealousy in Hayat's heart is enflamed by the community's anti-Semitism and he acts with catastrophic consequences for those he loves most.

I love audio books and this is one of the best I have listened to in years. Not only is the story engaging ( I was hooked within the first few lines) but the reader is excellent, which makes a good audio book fail or shine. This one really shines. As soon as this author writes another book, I will be first in line to listen/read it.
The peak at a different culture really stands out as does the humanity of all the characters, both their good and bad qualities. Highly recommended

The narration to this story added so much to the telling of the tale. This book fascinated me, provoked me, and I was in love with and angry with most of the characters. It is a book that made me think, really think.

I have returned it on 26 October to Yarborough Library on Hancock. Old Quarry is the library it has to go to. I have informed both Old Quarry and Yarborough that I have returned it and they need to check their books. They are conducting an extensive search.

I enjoyed this book. It is about a young boy growing up in the States. He is Muslim but his father doesn't practise the religion and his mother is off hand about it. The Aunt from Pakistani comes to live with this family and encourages the boy to read the Koran. One meets a variety of characters as you would in the Christian religion.
