Having left high school behind forces our protagonists to make very tough decisions. In doing so, they come across people who haven’t matured as much as they have. Once again, dealing with ghosts takes center stage and the author writes with her usual verve about the harsh impact they sometimes have on the living.

As in her two previous books, Ms. Kade plays fast and loose with the rules of ghost-talking because, frankly, there are no rules and, thus, no easy answers. Everybody in these books is feeling their way as they negotiate the difficulties of life and death. Conflict and tension remain the cornerstones of any novel dealing with growth. That the writer can show this without leaving her readers frustrated and annoyed is proof of her advanced writing skills.

This series was a joy to read, pulling in the reader with Ms. Kade’s characters, dialogue, worldview and unusual take on the supernatural. Even if these books are classified as Young Adult, adults play more than significant shares in them, proving Ms. Kade pens at an adult level and that definitely raises her above many others who write for this genre.

I really liked this book. I liked the way it ended. It finished the series off very well. A few twists in the book that kept me wanting to keep reading. I love Will and Alona's relationship.
