I consider this to be the height of Kevin's neurotic fluency; the height of his terrific anger and confusion before the crash of of Montreal part 1. If you know the oevure you know what I mean, but for the uninitiated here's a quick rundown:

1997-2003: bedroom stuff/"learning" no one cares. acousticy and singery, clever, troubled.

2004: Satanic Panic in the Attic: Kevin turns into a sexy butterfly and the music gets funky. very few care.

'05/'06: Sunlandic Twins: more expertise + Outback Steakhouse commercial. More people care.

2007: Hissing Fauna... of Montreal are (relatively) HUGE. Peoples' minds are blown, understandably. Good times ish.

2008-'10: Skeletal Lamping, False Priest: Pop stardom...almost.

2012: Paralytic Stalks: format becomes more epic. Kevin making insanely awesome music for years, but something's not quite clicking. Satisfaction elusive and retreating. Things feel like they're falling apart.

... then some "B-sides" are released, and he changes the whole format after taking a hiatus to SF. it's a really long story. I have immense respect for the uncensorability (errr) of this man's work. As well as the people who help him grow it in the world. Perhaps not the most likable person, but damn if he's not a fuckin genius and literate to boot. He gets wild as fuck here.

If ya wanna feel his high sexy self, check out False Priest, then Skeletal Lamping, then Sunlandic Twins. Hissing Fauna is the epiphany. Satanic Panic the first orgasm. (So to speak, as he made lots of other music earlier on, and that's some playing in the woods shit, which is obviously great fun).
