Interesting idea, but poor execution. Plot dragged on and on, and ultimately the slow pace ruined the otherwise nice character development. Disappointing.

I liked the plot development and the characters, but moved a bit too slow for me. I chose it by the cover, what can I say. And it's about Paris.

I read 50% of it and just couldn't get into it. The writing wasn't bad but I kept asking myself, "yes, but what's the point???".

Reminiscent of Virginia Woolf as we follow a day in the life of Clare, the wife of a high-ranking British diplomat in Paris, as she prepares for an important, last minute dinner party. We observe her as she grapples with the seemingly small choices of daily life that ultimately have large repercussions.

The call number is wrong. It should be FIC K because the author's last name begins with the letter "K". (For librarians, this is noted in the MARC record under line 901.)

I thought this book was fairly interesting, maybe because the world of expats fascinates me. I loved the French interspersed throughout the dialogue, as well. All-in-all, a good read.

I listened to this in audio format.

I found this an easy listen while doing chores but felt the main character was rather shallow. Guilt from our past can often overshadow our present and this aspect of the story kept me interested.
