From Library Staff

The Reason why The Woman in Black is so low on my list is because it doesn't really get scary until near the end. However, the build up is portrayed really well. The house looks fantastic and the costumes are great too. It's definitely worth watching to get spooked, even if the only really spooky... Read More »

It seems like Daniel Radcliffe's movie career's #1 goal is proving that he isn't Harry Potter. Not quite as good as Horns, but far more gothic!

A shame it bears so little resemblance to the book. The book is a very good ghost story.

The screen play makes adjustment of the events in the novel for dramatic effect. I found the scenes were dimly lit so I couldn't really see what was happening. I found it odd that a recently deceased woman's house could be that dusty, full of cobwebs, and even a roosting crow. If one hadn't read the book, the movie would be quite satisfying as a ghost story - even with a happy ending. But I really enjoyed the novel more as the main character's thoughts are shared with the reader - something hard to do with a movie.

Not great, but not bad. I find I actually preferred the 1970s (?) version.

The movie really does a good job of recreating the book's haunted house and the horrifying environment. Graphic and vivid images are consistently throw at the young lawyer (Daniel Radcliffe). Daniel is already familiar with ghost and mythical events in Harry Potter, so his performance is very persuading.

The movie does a great job at building up suspense…that goes nowhere.

It's a great film ... and scary too! BUT ... Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) is not credible as the father of a child and as a lawyer. This brilliant boyish actor just doesn't have the presence to fill such a mature role.

I had heard that this was a truly scary ghost story. It's not. I'm not exactly a hardened horror movie watcher, but I found this boring and predictable. I found myself talking to the screen a lot - not a sign of being completely engrossed in a movie!

Wow, after reading several of the comments I guess my husband and I are in the minority. We liked the movie very much.

We haven't seen the original version (which incidentally stars the actor who played 'James Potter'), but felt there was enough 'creep' factor to keep it going, and the acting is fabulous, not only by Daniel Radcliffe and Ciaran Hinds, but supporting cast as well.

Sure, the movie may have had some predictable aspects to it, but people really expect too much these days. Use your imagination, stop relying on so many visual effects (yep, like the 'olden' days) and you just might find the story a little creepier than you expected.

This disc is not damaged. It would not play.

I think this movie takes too long to build up. Maybe I've seen to many ghost stories, but it was very predictable and really didn't surprise me at all. Even the ending was as expected.
