The reader leaves much to be desired and the story is jerky, disconnected, and comes to a complete slam on the brakes end. Over and over we hear about the main character's beauty and her "adult detachment disorder" but very little else about her. There are constant allusions to previous life events that seem completely unrelated to the story until the very end. The end is very discouraging, leaves too many questions open, and doesn't tie up any of the loose ends.

I know not every book is going to be great, even by a "New York Times Best Selling Author" but after reading this, I'm not sure how this Mr. Cook got on that list.

I completely agree with previous comment.A complete waste of time the characters become very useless and unsympathetic and the end is so discouraging that it leaves one completely frustrated and disappointed. The mean guy gets his due but only because there is even meaner and more ruthless characters who get away with it all.

Exciting and well done. However, it leaves you hanging! I hate it when authors do that. Even so, 8 of 10 for me.

Don't bother to read this piece of junk. Spoiler follows:

Robin Cook steps out of his normal pattern and manages to kill off or emotional destroy all of the main and/or sympathetic characters in this book. People are left hanging and many presumed dead. It could be he plans a sequel in which some are resucued but you won't catch me reading it or anything else by this guy. It's like he gets 11 CD's into the book and gets tired of it, appears to kill off the main character, leaves her father and love interest hanging and t he carefully developed gay guy standing around pointlessly near Denver.
