A rollicking read, told in verse by each of the three in the family who are fishing- Dad, Sam, and Lucy. The beautiful movement of Sam's attitude is the jewel in the crown of this gentle, sweet story.

I read this book aloud to a group of kids at the library for Readapalooza and then did a gyotaku fish printing art project while Fishing's Future volunteers helped kids practice casting and catching (fake) fish. This is an EXCELLENT read aloud in a mixed group of elementary school aged kids as the poetry sounds interesting and the story moves quickly with easy spots to take breaks between poems to ask them interactive questions. My own kids loved when I read it aloud at home to them. And as a bonus -- I also enjoyed reading it!

Excellent book with all different types of poems that tells a complete story of a fishing trip! Funny, entertaining. The back of the book explains about all the different types of poems. Some I had never heard of before . Great for any age and classroom.

Fisherman's Prayer

Send me a fish that is lively and long.
One that is sturdy, stupendous, and strong.

Maybe a walleye, a catfish or two -
Even a perch or a bluegill will do.

Now is the moment. I'm up to the task.
Any fish, many fish, that's all I ask.
