In exuberant verse and stirring pictures, Patricia Hruby Powell and Christian Robinson create an extraordinary portrait for young people of the passionate performer and civil rights advocate Josephine Baker, the woman who worked her way from the slums of St. Louis to the grandest stages in the world. Meticulously researched by both author and artist, Josephine's powerful story of struggle and triumph is an inspiration and a spectacle, just like the legend herself.

Baker & Taylor
Combines exuberant verse and stirring illustrations in a picture book introduction to the life of the passionate performer and civil rights activist that traces her journey from the slums of St. Louis to the world's most famous stages.

Love childrens nonfiction ~ it provides the facts in short bites and there is a sense of accomplishment in finishing a short story! #wndb

Beautifully illustrated book about the iconic African-American actress/dancer/singer who made her reputation in Paris. Probably better for older kids, as some of her costumes and dances were a wee bit suggestive.
