I ended up buying this one for the advice on measuring and pattern making. Though I have to admit I have not made anything yet. But, now that it's on my shelf it can stare at me until I do.

While this book does have some helpful advice, like how to draft patterns using only paper and your measurements, it was mostly unhelpful to me. One of the things I disliked about it was the absence of diagrams and photos that explained exactly what the text was telling you to do. Instead you're mostly stuck trying to imagine how to preform the actions you're told to do without knowing what each step should look like when you're done with it. Also, the pattern projects in the book are really not the nicest looking in my opinion. There were only one or two designs I liked. However, that is personal opinion and your own view of the clothes in the book may be totally different. This book does not go very in-depth in most areas. It is just enough information to start a person on the path to sewing their own clothing, whereupon the person would need another book with better information to help them. The list of personal measurements is quite extensive and helpful, though. Even though this book is not the best, I'd still say check it out. If you don't know too much about this area of sewing this book will help you at least figure out some things. And the best thing is that you can get it at the library and not have to pay for a book that you may soon outgrow.

I don't like very many of her pattern examples but the advice on making your own patterns is worth it! Definitely a reference book for every sewist who makes her own clothing!

This is an inspiring book to begin patterning your own clothes. There are some fitted and loose fitting styles, definitely worth a read. I own this book. Great reference.

While the styles shown are for teenagers, the principles make an excellent start for anybody who wants to begin to design their own clothing. The book begins with several basics, and then diagrams how to make changes to get a garment that looks much different.
