I found this movie delightful. Ensemble acting, the best kind of acting. Also, British actors know how to do nuance.
I borrowed this DVD to watch Brenda Blethyn, who is always a joy. But the film was mostly about male bonding and personal growth. It was a joy to watch the depth of affection and respect displayed.

A very quaint film, a wee heavy on the saccharin, though. I like Brenda Blethyn (Saving Grace, Pride and Prejudice, etc.). Peter Mullan, (Frank), and the whole cast were good. The story had a strong foundation, it just was so damned predictable. Could've used a little tweaking.

Sharp Suit (Frank's ex-boss): "You should've been more loyal to the company, Frank." Frank: "You don't know what loyalty is..." Sharp Suit (snickering): "Loyalty is a full wage packet at the end of the week... Loyalty, is being valued... being happy with yourself... You happy with yourself, Frank?" Frank: "Who do you think you are? ...You seriously think you can intimidate people into being loyal to YOU? (gets right in his face) There's not a man in this yard would piss on you if you were on FIRE." (walks away)
