“Greedy Lying Bastards” is a 2012 documentary directed, co-produced, co-written, and narrated by Craig Rosebraugh. As can be deduced by the title, this movie most assuredly has a particular point of view. Therefore, this film is not for everybody. If you are a science denier, it is not for you. I... Read More »

The opening shot of the film is a woman driving around her upscale Colorado suburb yelling obscenities about the smoke/fire closing in on her manicured neighborhood. The film then pans over to some bug-eyed guy with a severe comb-over saying, in a very intense way, "Climate change is real!" Okay. At that point, I stopped watching (about 5 minutes in)...and I wondered why the film creator decided to present something serious in such a ridiculous manner. Furthermore, I have to say that to present climate change, from the outset, as something that happens to rich, filthy-mouthed probably not so great (or accurate). Given the film intro, I figured that I'm not part of the film's target demographic, so I stopped watching. If climate change means that rich suburbs across the country burn to the ground, then I guess I'm all for climate change.

Greedy lying bastards - how could you say it any better than that? Timely.

If you believe man has had no effect on the climate, it is not for you. If you work for Exxon/Mobil, or any other oil company, it is not for you. If you believe there is such a thing as “clean” coal, it is not for you. If you are employed by Koch Industries, it is not for you. If you are a Koch brother, it is not for you. If you do not care about melting polar ice caps, rising sea levels, droughts, storms and wildfires that seem more numerous and more powerful than ever before, it is not for you. If you think you know more than 95% of the world’s scientists, it is not for you. And, if you believe that man-caused climate change is a vast conspiracy, perpetrated on regular folks by lying, egghead scientists, Hollywood elitists, and capitalism-hating, pointy-headed tree-huggers, then “Greedy Lying Bastards” is most definitely not for you.

I wish I had faith that enough people will fire up their critical thinking skills and reject the lies that are being told about climate change. I'm not sure there is still time to slow down the increasingly-severe changes that are coming. For the sake of today's children, we must hit the brakes.

Excellent doco on the entrenched interests who have thrown doubt on the need to fight climate change. Spoiler: ExxonMobil and the Koch brothers are the two primary culprits. Concerned citizens should boycott their products and urge representatives to stop subsidizing the big oil companies. Repealing Citizens United is imperative as well.

This request has been "In Transit" for the past month & a half. I guess it's no longer available. Too bad. It looked like a good movie.

Interesting that the Koch brothers-partially funded PBS should come out with this, but then it is a very confusing sector. I remember being shocked into stupification, around five years ago, when I was approached by the League of Conservation Voters who were promoting the passage of Wall Street's latest shadow banking gambit, cap-and-trade [originated from the Reagan Administration - - 1983, when we still had a few authentic democratic congressmen, who laughed it out of congress]. The League promised to go after anyone in congress, which was Dennis Kucinich and Pete Defazio, the only two democratic representatives then left in the House, who didn't support their scam? [Which included Greenpeace, also against cap-and-trade, as would be any sane and rational person.] Never believe the League of Conservation Voters, The National Conservancy, nor the Sierra Club - - remember who founded the conservation movement? The super-rich, who pushed for and altered the tax laws, giving them handsome payouts from the American tax base on fallow lands they owned and still own. Richard Howard Kunstler is a true believer in the Federal Reserve, and has made a career out of enjoyig those corporate brunches while giving talks on the environment to the corporations, who could care less - - ditto, McGibbens.

This should be watched by everyone, very sobering. I wonder why big oil doesn't care what kind of planet they are leaving for their kids and grandkids. Apparently money is more important to them than their families.
