While New York D.A. Butch Karp works to convict Jessica Campbell, a rabble-rousing political science professor, for the murders of her three children, a terrorist plans a spectacular attack in Manhattan, and only an eccentric team of crime fighters stands in his way.

"Escape is a classic encounter between the forces of good and evil in human form that asks, and answers, questions of how to deal with supposedly God-inspired acts of murder and mayhem. In a riveting trial of garish courtroom confrontations, newly elected New York District Attorney Karp battles the insanity of the insanity defense, as he tries to make Jessica Campbell, a rabble-rousing political science professor at NYU, pay for the murder of her three children. While Campbell claims that God told her to send her three children to Him, it is up to Karp to prove that she was fully aware of the nature and consequences of her actions. Meanwhile, an Islamic terrorist, The Sheik, and his homegrown suicidal jihadis hatch a plan, a spectacular outrage to occur in ManhattanÆs heartland, that if successful could destroy the economy of the United States and the world. Standing between the terrorist Sheik and his diabolical scheme are ButchÆs wife, Marlene Ciampi, a private detective focused on protecting women from abusers; the coupleÆs daughter, Lucy, who has joined a secretive anti-terrorist organization; and a wonderfully eccentric-but effective-group of crime fighters as has ever graced the pages of a book."

Findaway World Llc

Claiming God commanded her to gruesomely murder her three small children, a radical political-science professor with a high-profile politician husband pleads insanity, leaving New York District Attorney Roger “Butch” Karp the arduous—and incredibly unpopular—task of proving that she’s not.

Meanwhile, an American-born jihadist detonates a suicide bomb inside a Manhattan synagogue. A harrowing question links the violent crimes: Is there any defense for a killer who believes that committing murder is God’s will?

As Karp, his wife Marlene, their daughter Lucy, and a cast of eccentric accomplices begin a deadly manhunt, they uncover an intricate terrorist plot to paralyze New York’s emergency response system and cripple the economy.

They must find an assassin known only as “The Sheik” before he orchestrates a bloody massacre that could devastate the country forever.

Mr. Tanenbaum is not nearly the novelist he was in the 90s. There are story subjects other than radical Islamists and left wing feminists. The Karp series has been in decline for years. Do yourself a favor and escape from Escape. 2 of 10 stars for this long complete waste of time.
