Maybe no other writer today enjoys his own creations while he's creating them more than Jasper Fforde..... third in the series and worth the chuckles.

As with the previous two books in the series, this is good fun. Smart, droll, witty, quick, and suspenseful. This story accomplishes more edge and darkness than what's come before without getting too heavy, and is the first to leave the plot unresolved, needing the next entry to fully reveal what happens. It also contains a delightful, ongoing critique of economic markets and the ways they influence--and often control--international politics. Money is everything, behind the scenes. Jennifer remains a strong, resourceful, and brilliant heroine, and is more on her own than ever. I'm anxious for the next installment.

Another fun story that resides in our parallel universe. Left on a cliff hanger that makes me want the next book even more!

Jennifer Strange is no stranger to danger but this time she may be in over her head. Her adventure takes her into the heart of a nation that thrives on offering danger to thrill-seeking tourists. In fact, this is such a popular commodity, the danger comes with various different threat levels, with the chances of death rising proportionally at each higher level. Only Jennifer Strange would pick an impossible quest that comes with a 100% level of fatality for everybody involved.

As is his wont, Mr. Fforde delights in playing with the common depictions of magic, mystical animals, hostile natives (some of whom are so deadly, no one who encounters them survives, although they do a bang-up job of taxidermy on their victims) and the nature of quests themselves. For this is a quest and one touching, terrifying and hilarious by turns. Tears will be shed, hearts will be broken, uppity royals will get a lesson in humility and there will be blood. Oh yes, there will be blood.

Get ready to laugh out loud and shed a tear or two as Jasper Fforde takes you once again into the realm of Kazam.

A fun romp. I am eager for the next book in this series.

It's somewhat bizarre to learn that many of you think that other humans are somehow different enough to be hated and killed when in reality you're all tiresomely similar in outlook, needs and motivation, and differ only by peculiar habits, generally shaped by geographical circumstances.
