This is the first book in the series. Melody Carlson drew me into this story about Elizabeth Martin's life as she bravely joins a substantial wagon train with her two children, parents, brother and devoted farmhand traveling to Oregon country. She travels over plains and mountain and faces many dangers and trials until she is halfway to Oregon and then the book ends. I immediately wanted to read book 2 in the series to continue following Elizabeth's travels in her covered wagon. Melody Carlson has again written an engrossing book!
