From Library Staff

Alternatingly hilarious and heartfelt, I learned a lot about the man alternately known for his child-doctor-ness and the larger-than-life adult.

I really enjoyed the stories. NPH is a natural storyteller and it was fantastic to hear about how he came to be where he is today. I also loved all of the added things on the audiobook version. However, the format was the biggest issue for me. The second person narrative--known in the Choose Your Own Adventure books--was very impersonal for an autobiography. I didn't think it worked well and it made NPH seem distant from the personal stories, which made it hard to connect to. Additionally, the audiobook forces you to listen to every part of it, so all of the "untimely deaths" and "magic tricks" I just skipped over because I felt they were a waste of time.

That being said, the stories were the best part. His time on HIMYM, Dougie, Harold and Kumar, along with all of his theatrical endeavors were great. I particularly enjoyed how he met David and their struggle with surrogacy and the parts about their family. It was a great autobiography, just told in the wrong format.

I am much to linear a thinker to enjoy this. I've never done well with choose your own adventure books. Still, I did learn an interesting new word on p. 16 "importantlier." I am clearly the wrong generation.

I guess I am just getting to old. I didn't find this choose your own adventure to be exciting. It was just a boring read. Nothing new or interesting that I didn't already know being a fan in the 1990's.

This was a really fun and unique read! It was a book for my book club and even though I did not have a particular interest in the author I found the book very enjoyable and the format very unique. I do have to say that I felt it took 2 reads to get the full package out of the book. Reading it once I felt like I had missed too much. I also went back and read all of the funny endings and pages that I had missed. There are lots of "treasure pages" and hilarious endings. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of NPH or enjoys humorous literature or biographies.

A fun biography.

In addition to this unique writing construction of "Choose Your Own Autobiography," the book is well written with life stories meant to be illuminating and humorous. Highly recommended for anyone who doesn`t take life too seriously, but admires some ambition.

It's too bad that more people don't write choose-your-own autobiographies, because man was this fun! Rather than the usual self-important blathering of a celebrity autobiography, we get a witty, irreverent romp that includes real magic tricks, cocktail recipes, and a crossword puzzle that I'm pretty sure is unsolvable. My one quibble is that Neil seems a bit self-congratulatory throughout the book, but he has worked really, really hard to get to the level of personal and professional success he now enjoys, so he's probably earned it. Very fun read!

Meh. It was okay. I read the e-book version which allowed you to jump to a different section so that was a plus. It was witty enough, but nothing that I found super entertaining or engaging. I was bored to tears by the end. If you are a dire hard fan of Neil Patrick Harris, I think you will love this book. If you enjoy him in passing, this book will end up being a snoozefest.

This book is full of everything you'd expect from Neil Patrick Harris and a book with this title. I giggled my way through this unconventional autobiography and was a total rebel, reading it straight through rather than following the page jump to page jump method. Harris is exactly as kind, sweet, and funny as you'd expect, and the stories he shares in the book were an absolute delight. If you're a NPH fan of any stripe, you should definitely pick this up sooner rather than later.

I loved this book so much. I am proud to say that NPH is now my favorite actor. His story is amazing and his humor makes my day every day. I loved the Choose Your Own Adventure style, too, and it made this book so much fun to read! I definitely recommend reading this book. You will not regret it.
