The idea was excellent ; a beautiful young alchemist discovers the elixir of immortality and will become the muse of several famous artists over the ensuing centuries . However the author reduced the potential of this incredible journey to a mere detective story creating an evil and cruel character out of the alchemist 's husband . Still, i recommend this page-turning "historical thriller" !
