Whether you love them or hate them, there's no denying that the New York Yankees are a team with an incredibly rich history. And in Pinstripe Empire, we learn a lot about this treasured franchise, from its humble beginnings in 1903 as the New York Highlanders right up to the A-Rod suspension in 2013. At nearly 600 pages, a lot of ground is covered in this book, going over the numerous dynasties from Murderer's Row of the 1920s to the late 90s powerhouse that won three consecutive World Series. I learned quite a bit from reading the book, like the fact that the Yanks played two seasons at the Polo Grounds before moving to the first Yankee Stadium in 1923 and the enormous impact that the signing of Catfish Hunter had on a free-agent market that exploded in the following decades. There's so many factoids here that no review can do it justice. Whether you're a true Yankee fanatic or just a casual baseball observer, Pinstripe Empire has something for everyone. Kudos to author Marty Appel for tackling a subject that spans more than a century!
