An interesting historical setting. Fanning manages to build a good plot line, but doesn't do much to develop the heroine/narrator, whose confrontational and near-hysterical reactions to friends and foe alike gets annoying. It's just impossible to believe Libby's attitudes are those of a woman of that time period. Libby is so "21st century" that she seems to be cruising for a ticket to jail or the madhouse in 1942 - and only some highly improbable assists from the author keep the story line from an abruptly realistic ending.
