"This book visually tells us the intimate story of Peter, Paul, and Mary and their music, with stirring images that follow their passionate, fifty-year journey to the center of America's heart. The very best of thousands of photographs, many rare and never before published, taken over five decades by some of the world's top photographers, follow them from their earliest performances in the 1960s, when Mary was the most desired, beautiful, and charismatic performer and a new role model for women. Follow the trio as they lead America to discover the passionate soul of folk music. Peter, Paul, and Mary's songs of defiant hope and a certain unmasked innocence are still a powerful part of our American consciousness, and this book reenacts the history of how the trio marked our lives with their indelible stamp of honesty"-- Provided by publisher.

I have just finished this wonderful book with its many photographs, about the folk-singing trio Peter, Paul and Mary. It brought back memories for me as I was a college student in the 1960s, participating in many of the same events they performed at and sang about. Peter, Paul and Mary started as a folk-singing trio in the US in the 1960s. They followed the example set by Pete Seeger and sang songs of hope, protest, struggle – the folk songs of America, some written by people like Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan, some written by themselves. They sang at rallies and protests and demonstrations: civil rights marches, anti-war protests, the anti-nuke movement, the environmental movement, the anti-apartheid movement. They traveled to South Africa, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Israel and other troubled places in the world and bore witness to what they saw, and shared songs of freedom and justice, and hope.

I am reminded that many of us still have visions of these dreams for humankind, for social change, for the health of our environment, for a better world. Let’s put those visions into action.
