This is an astonishing read, highly fascinating and pretty quotable--like a TED Talk. It's showing how the Internet--and how it connects people--has changed the face of how we perceive media. It seems one sided and doesn't address all the thoughts I have on the topic, and the side blurbs can be strangely formatted, but it's well worth reading because it raises wonderful questions and encourages people to research and discover what works (and not necessarily give up on the system, but fix it). Perhaps you won't agree with him, but you need to be informed about the changes we face.

Excellent discussion of the fine points of intellectual property and compensation for creators. Sounds dry, but Doctorow is a very lively writer and brings lots of real world practical examples and issues to help the average person understand why this is important and what some of the options could be.

Doctorow weaves through the complex intellectual property issues of the internet. His book is both breezy and wonky in a very readable way. Doctorow has a been a leading force for net neutrality. He delves into the legal issues -- as they are, as he fears they could become, and as he wants all of us to fight for them to be --, favoring both the producers and consumers of creative works. This is a very important book for independent artists and creators of all kinds who are trying to make a living in a new, bewildering world.
