For the life of me I can't see how you got that. He spends copious amounts of time focusing on the ridicules things the catholic church did. He talked about the corruption of popes, the lose definition of a "heretic" and gave praise to the cathars, a heretical group. But on the whole I didn't get any religious feel from him at all. His other great courses lecture "How the crusades changed history" pointed out exactly how ridiculous the whole thing was.
