How To Be a Good Wife by Emma Chapman is a haunting literary debut about a woman who begins having visions that make her question everything she knowsMarta and Hector have been married for a long time. Through the good and bad; through raising a son and sending him off to life after university. So long, in fact, that Marta finds it difficult to remember her life before Hector. He has always taken care of her, and she has always done everything she can to be a good wifeђ́ؤas advised by a dog-eared manual given to her by Hector's aloof mother on their wedding day.But now, something is changing. Small things seem off. A flash of movement in the corner of her eye, elapsed moments that she can't recall. Visions of a blonde girl in the darkness that only Marta can see. Psychological novel about a woman who suspects that things are not quite right although she seems to be in an ideal marriage and has a loving son. Easy, short read well told although sometimes you don't know the unreal from reality. The ending leaves you somewhat questioning the heroine's sanity : no doubt intended by the author.

Loved it can be said she was a victim however was it mental illness or something more sinister. Leaves it up to the reader.

Mixed feelings about this book. Started off iffy and I almost put it down after the first couple chapters. I did end up finishing it and did like the end, but was left feeling out of sorts because the author leaves the reading wondering what really happened and never does explain. Was Marta dealing with mental illness or an evil husband? We'll never know.

A desperate life and an ambiguous end. Was she mentally unwell or a victim of something more sinister? Hard to tell. Well written tension makes for uncomfortable reading - you wonder what is actually going on but never really find out!

An extremely depressing book that left a lot of questions unanswered. I won't be looking for more books from this author and would not recommend this one.
