Laura Murray’s retelling of the traditional tale of the runaway gingerbread man would be the perfect choice of a Christmas read-aloud to share with a child.
The class is making Christmas cards and gifts to show their appreciation for various people in the neighbourhood. The Gingerbread Man wants to deliver his hand-made Christmas gift to the community helper he appreciates the most: the baker who helped the class make him.
However, the weather isn’t co-operating. The slushy snow and the wind are dangerous for cookies, and by the time the determined Gingerbread Man finally finds the bakery, his feet are starting to become a doughy mess.
Fortunately, the baker is able to make some quick repairs to the Gingerbread Man’s feet, and all is well.
Paired with lively illustrations, this is a heartwarming tale of showing appreciation to others. (This is Laura Murray’s third story about the spunky, determined Gingerbread Man.)
