Applying training practices from other endurance sports, the authors demonstrate that following a carefully designed regimen is as effective for alpinism as it is for any other endurance sport and leads to better performance. They deliver detailed instruction on how to plan and execute training tailored to your individual circumstances, translating training theory into practice to allow you to coach yourself to any mountaineering goal.--Publisher.

I picked this book up on a whim - and I love it. I am not a climber, but I need to get in shape and am following their simple, but effective plan to not only strengthen my core, but for all around cardio fitness. The writing is accessible and interesting - and the stories are engaging. I may never climb a mountain, but I now appreciate the hard work climbers do year round to reach their goals.

This has lots of good material for high end climbers. The authors (and their many impressive collaborators in this volume) have a great deal of experience backing their recommendations, and put it into a format which is enjoyable to read. I've given it less than 5/5 stars because in most of the book it's hard to see how to apply their methods if one's life is busy - not full time climbing & training. Most climbers and scramblers could benefit from its contents nonetheless.
