Found it on the shelves at CPL, not relevant to Canadians. Helpful if you live in Canada but a US citizen and moving back for retirement. What burns my butt is I suggest many titles, point out ones with Canadian content, some are approved for purchase, a few actually get bought, why do we spend $ on books NOT helpful to their target market?

I found this book to be down-to-earth, practical and easy to understand. My favorite take-away was the calculation beginning on page 15.

Jane Bryant Quinn takes a person from a vague assumption of their personal retirement finances, to a confident understanding of what to expect. She takes the reader step by step through helping them learn how to calculate all the various financial demands that will affect their retirement, all the while, letting them learn options to minimize them. The expert knowledge she brings to the reader provides a calm to the panic of the unknown and path to the best options.

This book is focused on US subjects but general advice can benefit Canadians. A bit repetitious at selling the main (preferred by the author) idea how to financially prepare yourself for retirement and handle your finances after - this idea can be summarized in few pages.

In these times of economic uneasiness Jane Bryant Quinn's book abounds with sensible clear strategies, suggestions, and advice for anyone who wants regular income (a growing concern for many) throughout retirement. Whether you have just started thinking about "the best years of your life" or are already there - and every stage in between - Quinn clearly explains advantages and pitfalls of different financial choices based on a wide variety of personal situations and stages of one's life. This book is readable and easy to understand; you will return to it often.

Quinn really knows her audience and her financial facts. This is a new book so you can get the best advice for current laws. Instead of giving absolute recommendations, she concludes each topic with a check list you so you can decide the best action depending on your own financial situation and goals.

Good general advice, specifically tailored to the U.S. market. Many chapters speak directly about choosing a health care insurer, the ROTH (401-K), and the IRA, which are meaningless to a Canadian reader. There are much better and more targeted material for Canadian retirement planning; 'Retirement Rocks', and many of the titles written by Gordon Pape (Guide to TFSAs) (RRSPs can make you rich), Wes Moss, and Andrew Hallam (Millionaire Teacher) Check out my suggested Retirement reading list if you want more.

Has useful information for just starting out. You can read just pieces of it to learn more for your particular situation, but you'd miss some good advice.
