Sherlock Holmes is an unparalleled genius. Warlock Holmes is an idiot. A font of arcane power, certainly. But he’s brilliantly dim. Frankly, he couldn’t deduce his way out of a paper bag. The only thing he has really got going for him are the might of a thousand demons and his stalwart companion. Thankfully, Dr. Watson is always there to aid him through the treacherous shoals of Victorian propriety… and save him from a gruesome death every now and again.

Sherlock Holmes is an unparalleled genius who uses the gift of deduction and reason to solve the most vexing of crimes. Warlock Holmes, however, is not. He may be a font of arcane power, but frankly he couldn't deduce his way out of a paper bag. The only things he's got going for him are the might of a thousand demons, the spirit of Moriarty trapped in his head, and his stalwart companion Dr. John Watson, who is always there to guide him through the treacherous shoals of Victorian propriety and save him from a gruesome death every now and again--

Denning's take on the Sherlock stories is delightfully silly - a marriage of Victorian mystery with magic and paranormal. The concept is a bit strained at times but it's so much fun that a few flaws are easy to forgive. Most impressive is how well Denning mimics Conan Doyle's writing style: despite the contemporary concept and humor, this reads like a Victorian novel.

The Sherlock Holmes stories set in a world where magic exists. G. S. Denning manages to bring both horror and comedy to this original take on the Holmes canon.
