This darkly festive tale of a yuletide ghoul reveals an irreverently twisted side to the holiday. The horror-comedy tells the story of young Max, who turns his back on Christmas as his dysfunctional family comes together and comically clashes over the holidays. When they accidentally unleash the wrath of Krampus, an ancient entity from European folklore, all hell breaks loose and beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own.

I was expecting some good-feel fantasy, but it didn't turn out the way it was. Never seen a horror flick that well before compared to the TV-made ones I already saw on SciFi, yet it was a retelling of A Christmas Carol except instead of going back in time, it was the elimination challenge here and there without the narration from off-screen you've always seen on reality television and certain documentaries. Christmas would never be the same again! The different Krampus telling from "My True Love Gave to Me" recommended me to watch the movie, but before that DeviantArt sponsored it last year and I did saw it today. Very intense for kids, but suitable for the mature audience especially "goffiks" everywhere.

I was getting disappointed at the first 15 - 20 minutes but then things changed.

I really enjoyed this one, though it didn't get into the lore very much. Very "B" movie, one of those kind-of terrible movies that are pretty fantastic:)

I'm not really into Christmas movies (Bah humbug!), so I was pleased to see a horror-themed holiday movie released during the season of forced cheer, rabid consummation, and ungodly sweaters. It's maybe the best horror-themed holiday movie since "Gremlins." Some quality actors who aren't normally known for genre movies (Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner) star and the PG-13 rating (Parents be warned!) means there's more tension and creepiness than gore. It has a bit of a European folk tale feel, as Krampus is basically the evil Santa Claus. He comes calling to an unhappy suburban family at Christmas and the poop hits the fan. The design of Krampus and his evil minions, which include freaky elves and malicious toys, is both playful and genuinely frightening. It doesn't take itself too seriously, but is a solid, well-made horror film with an interesting ending. Ignore the negative reviews and bask in the horror of the season.

I'm a fan of the folklore figure, but this movie fell short in depicting the true essence of Krampus. I wish it had been scarier (PG-13), but it was entertaining enough.

I would have loved to be able to watch this movie and write a review about the movie but... after I checked it out with a baby on my hip I realize the next day when I went to watch it that it's not in the box. Now the Library is charging me late fees because they renewed it without it being in the Box when I told them at the desk that it's not in there. They are trying to make me pay for the movie. Now I would be happy to pay and or replace the movie If I lost or damaged it but I did not.

If you firmly believe in the spirit of Xmas and that dysfunction begets dysfunction, then, make no mistake about it - This maladjusted, over-the-top, yuletide, tale-of-terror will, most certainly, introduce you, face-to-face, to a virtual "slaughterhouse" celebration that is now becoming a new tradition during this "Happy Holiday Season".

And, I ask you - Why is it that it always seems to take such horrific events (as the nightmare that occurs in "Krampus") to shake dysfunctional, nasty-minded adults and children out of their persistent and annoying complacency?

Anyway - Be warned - This PG-13 horror story's bottom line is - If you don't get into the spirit of the fairy-tale nonsense that prevails at Xmas, then (that's right!) Krampus will get you, unleashing his wrath (with a vengeance) on all of those who are non-believers.

From my point of view - This film's only likeable character was Rosie, the dog.

Yes. I'd say that Krampus is very likely the most stupid, vile and despicable Xmas story ever told. It's absolute bottom-of-the-barrel junk from start to finish.

Considering that this garbage movie has a PG-13 rating - I ask you - Is this really what parents want their kids to watch? Is it!!?.... Yep - 'Tis the season to be demented.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: For younger children there are a number of scary & intense scenes

Sexual Content: Very mild, in my opinion but thought I'd warn anyway. In a family picture with santa claus hes looking suggestively at the teenage daughter, which would probably be missed by most young children.

Omi: Saint Nicholas is not coming this year. Instead, a much darker, ancient spirit. His name is Krampus. He and his helpers did not come to give, but to take. He is the shadow of Saint Nicholas.
