This is one of my favorite Pern novels, if only because it delves into Pernese origins. More sci-fi than the others with actual space travel, and more techy than the others, it follows the path of the creation of dragons and the advent of the first dragon riders. A plus for people who can't keep track of characters in a series, these are all new folks. Enjoyable, truly readable.
