Teen hacker, gamer girl, and bounty hunter Emika Chen lives in a world where ninety percent of the population plays Warcross, a virtual reality game created by wunderkind Hideo Tanaka. When Emika accidentally glitches herself into the opening game of the Warcross world championship, she grabs Hideo’s attention, and he promptly flies her to Tokyo to hunt down the mysterious person who’s been hacking Warcross like never before. But what she discovers will change her world, and the world of Warcross, forever. With romance, friendship, and suspenseful game play, this book kept me reading long past my bedtime. "Warcross" is a wild ride!

Warcross is an intriguing testament to the motives of the people around us. I don't really have anything bad to say about this book, just that the author consistently uses the same character archetypes in all of her novels. Don't get me wrong, Warcross is an AMAZING book! Even the sequel does not disappoint.

Amazing read. Not really for you if you're going for a in-depth strong story, but is great if you want fun, fast read. I'm really excited for the sequel, as Marie Lu once again fails to disappoint. Overall, I give this book a 10/10 and a "Would Strongly Recommend Reading" review.

Slightly predictable, but still suspenseful. A detailed and virtual world with well-developed characters and a fascinating ethical dilemma. I love Marie Lu's writing style.

3.5 stars. think i checked out/renewed this book from the library several times before it floated to the top of my rotation. when i finally read it, it was really fun. you can see the comparisons to ready player one and why it is being made into a movie.
it’s always a relief when the japanese elements are authentic. audiobook narrator was wonderful.

From the author of The Legend Trilogy comes a new science-fiction series centered around Warcross, a fictional Virtual Reality game. Featuring a clever and dynamic heroine, this series opener is thrilling, thought-provoking, and even a touch romantic. Come for the video games and stay for the international intrigue.

Excellent, non-stop action and adrenaline. This is one you don't want to put down. I found the novel's three elements--hacker intrigue, game clashes, and mysterious romance--didn't ever quite mesh, with some plot and logic holes resulting. But if you're willing to suspend your disbelief, it's a fun ride.

This is very much outside my wheelhouse, but I couldn't put it down. Get through the exposition and immerse yourself in this fast-paced, wildly imaginative thriller.

Goodness, what a page turner. Even though halfway through I had a pretty good idea of what the conclusion would be, I just had to keep reading to see if I was right, and of course as soon as I found out there's a sequel I had to get on the waiting list for when it comes out at the local library. Marie Lu's writing is captivating. This story is as good a read as (maybe even better than?) the three-part YA Legend series (which I read quickly and which sparked my interest in reading all Lu's other books.) LOVE strong female protagonists with their backs against the wall. While I'm not of the gaming generation, I can still appreciate great storytelling in this sort of dystopian world, and my teenage daughter borrowed this book from me and finished it in one sitting before I could. Huge fan. Great fast-paced summer read. Librarian recommended. More please!
