If you’re looking for a history of the Jane Austen industrial complex and fandom, then this is a good book. It’s chatty, lively journalism from an insider. However, the author admits that she doesn’t have any particular insights into the craze, other than the sight of BBC Colin Firth’s wet shirt. so if you’re looking for deeper conclusions you may be disappointed, as I was.
