In April 2016, computer technicians at the Democratic National Committee discovered that someone had accessed the organization's computer servers and conducted a theft that is best described as Watergate 2.0. In the weeks that followed, the nation's top computer security experts discovered that the cyber thieves had helped themselves to everything: sensitive documents, emails, donor information, even voice mails.Soon after, the remainder of the Democratic Party machine, the congressional campaign, the Clinton campaign, and their friends and allies in the media were also hacked. Credit cards numbers, phone numbers, and contacts were stolen. In short order, the FBI found that more than twenty-five state election offices had their voter registration systems probed or attacked by the same hackers.Western intelligence agencies tracked the hack to Russian spy agencies and dubbed them the CYBER BEARS. The media was soon flooded with the stolen information channeled through Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks. It was a massive attack on America but the Russian hacks appeared to have a singular goal—elect Donald J. Trump as president of the United States.New York Times bestselling author and career intelligence officer Malcolm Nance's fast paced real-life spy thriller takes you from Vladimir Putin's rise through the KGB from junior officer to spymaster-in-chief and spells out the story of how he performed the ultimate political manipulation—convincing Donald Trump to abandon seventy years of American foreign policy including the destruction of NATO, cheering the end of the European Union, allowing Russian domination of Eastern Europe, and destroying the existing global order with America at its lead. The Plot to Hack America is the thrilling true story of how Putin's spy agency, run by the Russian billionaire class, used the promise of power and influence to cultivate Trump as well as his closest aides, the Kremlin Crew, to become unwitting assets of the Russian government. The goal? To put an end to 240 years of free and fair American democratic elections.

This is the grand-daddy of all books relating to the Russian efforts to promote Trump and to defame Clinton. It came out before the election during the time the Obama regime kept silent about the Russian interference (Obama didn't want to appear to be taking sides in the election, so said little). Nance said a lot. Nance, formerly a long-time member of the CIA knew a lot about Russian cyber warfare efforts and he talks a lot about Russia's bromance with Trump since 1987 continuously enticing him with possibilities of making millions in Russian real estate. Also Nance discusses Russia's cyber warfare against Estonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Ukraine, France, Germany, etc. prior to their efforts against the USA. The subtitle on the library copy is "How Putin's Cyberspies and WikiLeaks Tried to Steal the 2016 Election." Note the word "tried" can now be changed to "Helped."

This Sept, 2016, book, issued to sabotage Trump, parallelled the long-running Liberal media vote-suppression effort (Trump has no chance, don't bother voting for him). Later the book was reissued to discredit the election.
--- Trained in Cold War black ops, xenophobic author Nance knows the Russians are evil and sees their wickedness everywhere.
--- Despite a maze of cyber terms and convoluted inferences, Nance has no hard evidence the DNC was hacked by Russians. At some point every argument depends on assumed Russian wickedness and consequent responsibility. The Russians "must" have done it because the hack resembled earlier hacks that were assumed (by unnamed persons) to have been done by Russians. (The NSA admitted that hackers had stolen its malware that could mimic intrusions by other governments, leaving a fake trail.)
--- The DNC never let the FBI see the hacked server, but instead had Dem-connected IT firm CrowdStrike examine it. CrowdStrike then told the FBI what CrowdStrike claimed it had found. Nance's evidence came from CrowdStrike, pp 91, 94-96, 125-127, 130.
--- The hacked emails were published by Wikileaks, which said Russians were NOT the source; Nance claims Wikileaks is wholly owned by the Russians, p 121, for it wickedly revealed US crimes in Afghanistan and Iraq, p 112-113. Lone wolf Guccifer 2.0 said HE did the hack. If so, he must be a Russian agent too, pp 128-130. No matter who did what, the Russians had to be behind it.
--- Putin and Trump are evil and therefore must be working together. Putin is both a Communist and a neo-Nazi. He wickedly thwarted our plans to take over Crimea and Syria. Trump is a neo-Nazi racist for criticizing Obama and opposing voter fraud (Nance is Black). Trump does not hate Russians as a good American should; his desire for peace with Moscow endangers our control of Europe and the Near East.
--- Trump is the type the Russians recruit: "Ego-centric people who lack moral principles -- who are either too greedy or who suffer from exaggerated self-importance. These are the people the KGB wants and finds easiest to recruit," p xv. (The KGB is long gone, but Nance thinks it still exists. The description fits Hillary Clinton. Bill Clinton visited Russia as a student during the Cold War. Was he recruited? He got $500,000 from the Russians when Hillary approved a huge uranium sale to them. Shouldn't the witch hunt include the Clintons?)
--- The Dems conspired with Ukrainian government agents against Trump, so the Russians must have sided with him.
--- The recruitment point is repeated at p 42. But after pages of innuendos, Nance admits that Trump has not yet been convicted of treason, and may be only a dupe of Putin. He then retreats further: "[T]he probability that Vladimir Putin has handled Trump ... is well within the KGB playbook," p 148 -- which really means nothing.
--- Spy-chief James Clapper seems to be the main source of the Russia conspiracy theory. (Cf pp 21-22 re Chinese and private hackers.) In 2013, Clapper lied under oath to hide NSA spying on millions of Americans. Later he justified his perjury: US spymasters are supposed to lie. Nance is part of the same Deep State cabal.
--- Nance admits the hack truthfully revealed the DNC's corruption, but says it should not have been exposed. People need to believe in the DNC, for it gave us Obama. The public should have remained deceived, should have voted in ignorance. Trump exploitively denounced the DNC's treachery, and angry Sanders delegates declared the system was rigged, just as Trump had claimed, p 132. The Russians instigated this rebellion. They should never have let Bernie's people know what Hillary had done to them.
--- Nance says the Russians do not want Trump to win, but only to challenge the election after he loses. They want mass disruption by angry Trump supporters so "rejection of the result will cripple the nation," p 153 -- the very outcome the Dems have fomented.

Very informative about how Russia hacks into systems all around the world, including our elections. This is a complex issue that our Intelligence community has the ability to handle. And, yes Donald , they do know how to figure out if the hacks are Russia or China or some 400 pound person sitting on a sofa. We need to support the great people working to stop this cyber-invasion.

This is a very credible description of Russia's political and cyber-warfare capability and how it was used to alter the outcome of our presidential election.

Highly recommend this book-- knowing is better than not knowing as we struggle to protect our democracy.

[Update: 1/2016 - - CIA report is out, containing ZERO facts and, not surprisingly, 83% of Americans polled believe WikiLeaks over the pathologically lying CIA. The other 17% must either be the sociopaths or special ed people? Remember, it was Saudi Arabia who attacked the USA on 9/11, not the Russians. It was the Russians who repeatedly warned the FBI and CIA about Tsarnaev, whom they allowed to complete the Boston Marathon bombing! And it was Russia which allowed US military overflight clearance during operations in Afghanistan, and provided the Pentagon their Afghanistan intel.]
Think I'll skip this one, as I've found during my lifetime that the CIA [which is in the news, although this book cites the FBI, which falls into the same category] is simply not a valid reference source of any kind, quite the contrary - - whatever they claim, I look in the opposite direction for the truth. If Putin did such a bang-up job on the 2016 election, perhaps we should appoint him as our ruler! No, I don't think this book is valid, just as I think WikiLeaks was acting as it has before, as a conduit for whistleblowers, and that an inside source - - or whistleblower - - was finally appalled at what he or she saw within the HRC/DNC campaign, and blew the whistle. [But, do consider this book as a clarion call to finally be concerned about national security and the American government's destruction of it by offshoring technology, jobs and investment to China, Russia and elsewhere. And also to look deeply into the backgrounds of all these so-called // global terrorism experts \\ !]
