It's the day of the bike marathon, and the animals are all excited. All except Fox, who finds the course just a bit boring. Instead, he wants the type of bike adventure that has action and danger. That's when he gets a starry-eyed look. Because he is in charge of preparing the bikes, the ingenious critter decides to add a few "modifications". Together the forest animals jump on a tandem bicycle (although one made made for six). Their ride starts out pretty normal, then, they reach the hill. With a "fox forgot the brakes", and a wink from the picture, the excitement ramps up, and as they race down. Into the air, and under the sea they go, and their ride is certainly full of adventure that Fox craved, including the danger part. The ending will have kids laughing, but also smiling. Tabor's pencil illustrations are soft and have a warm saturated look. Text will sometimes whirl and twirl around with the action, and many pages have little funny additions to them to draw in the readers attention. The writing itself is quite witty too, making this book a good choice for reading aloud. This tale about a not-so-normal bike ride is sure to delight kids who are, themselves, just discovering the adventure that is cycling.
